Not News. Just Some Thoughts About Thoughts.

A couple of weeks ago I was on Tumblr and I saw a post about how annoying it is that people seem to care more about Michelle Obama's dress than the speech she gave. The author of the post wanted people to care about things that mattered. She ended the post with:
I like to think I care about things that matter, but that brings up the question, “what actually matters?” So, tell me, what does matter?
I thought about that question for a very long time. I came up with this: there really is no one universal thing of importance. Some people really do care about celebrity hair cuts and political fashion statements. Some people really care about the election and the future leader of our country. Some people may not care about either of those things, but still lead lives full of importance.

I don't think it's about what matters in general because then we would get nothing done. I think it is about what matters to you. People need to stop focusing so much on what is important to others.I'm not saying that we shouldn't care about what other people think, or say, or do, but we need to find a nice spot in between being super self-centered, and living off of other people's words. You need to focus more on what matters to you, and what you can do with that to make yourself better, and to make the world better.

  1. I like it! I agree that each person needs to define for themselves what is important.

  2. I love the idea that you explore in this post. Good work! The intro really works well to draw in the reader. However, you need more research into this idea and more links. You could talk about the science of thinking about your thinking as well.
